Birth to Three Events - March 2020 - San Francisco Bay Area
The ‘Cosmic’ Task of 0-3’ film and talk and the Newborn, a Person workshops are being offered by Karin Slabaugh. In 2010 Karin went to Rome and initiated archival research for the history of the Montessori Assistants to Infancy School and in 2012 completed a 0-3 course with Grazia Honegger Fresco who studied with Montessori in 1951 in the last course held in Rome.
Karin moved to Italy in 2016 to devote herself to work on projects that defend the rights of the newborn, to learn from those who have years of experience working on this mission in Italy, and to develop a new training for people who work with families at birth and the youngest children based on Montessori core values.

A film and talk from the 28th
International Montessori Congress in Prague (July 2017) In 1947 Grazia Honegger Fresco was in the first group of students at the Montessori Assistants to Infancy School in Rome and 70 years later is still at work defending the newborn and the youngest children. In this unique opportunity to hear directly from Honegger Fresco, in a film created with her for the 2017 International Congress, she will explain why we must understand the newborn and protect him, why the second year is a decisive and critical period of development, and how the environment rich in exploratory materials nurtures the child’s creativity and future critical thinking.

Karin Slabaugh decided to devote herself to advocating for the rights of the newborn in 2017 after launching a Montessori 0-6 month project in Italy in several hospitals and observing first hand the reality of an overly medicalized beginning to life. She has had the fortune to meet and work with four newborn Montessori Assistants in Italy who learned the art of observation of the newborn directly from Adele Costa Gnocchi and her direct students. Karin has a Master’s degree in Education from Loyola University and an AMI Montessori 0-3 diploma and a 0-3 Certificate from a 150 hour course offered by Grazia Honegger Fresco.

Lesley Monet Neustein holds a 0-3 Montessori diploma from AMI, is a birth and postpartum doula and has a Master’s degree in Education from Loyola University. Lesley has a passion for newborn care and supporting the family through the fragile period of prenatal life, birth and postpartum. It is Lesley’s goal to create a new training ground for professionals who focus on the vital period of life of birth, the newborn child and the newly born family. Lesley currently lives in the San Francisco Bay Area.
