Free Webinars

This free lecture and discussion series is designed to offer a brief introduction to the different stages of life that are the most delicate and fragile.
Karin will present the perspective of how understanding what nature's plan holds for us allows us to support the unfolding of life. This is how we can better understand Maria Montessori's vision of “education and peace”.

A Guide to Understanding Prenatal Life

June 26, 2021
Prenatal life is a psycho-somatic development. The embryo and fetus develop, this is the body and all of its systems to regulate and maintain itself. The capacity to interact with the world, to sense, feel and react develops at the same time, and this is the embryo of the mind and heart. How can we offer the best beginning to this littlest member of the human family while she is still in a room of her own?

A Guide to Understanding Birth

July 24, 2021

Some people say you have to read lots of books, some people say you have to take birth preparation classes. I will tell you what I think is vital for preparing for birth and it may not be at all what you expected. This talk is about the physiology of birth: how a woman's body opens up in order to allow her baby to pass through the birth canal. Knowing what supports this and what prevents this empowers a woman to make the choices that are right for her and her family.

A Guide to Understanding the Newborn
August 28, 2021
Newborns are beautiful and mysterious creatures that require us to crack a code in order to understand them. How do we do this so the “feedback form” from new baby would be a positive one?

A Guide to Understanding the Youngest Infants
September 25, 2021

This talk looks at the period from the second month to the fifth or sixth month, no longer a newborn but still a very sensitive little person who needs protection from having to process stimuli beyond his capacity. Babies need a crescendo of opportunities to learn from in the form of new stimuli. And they need to not have everything change all of the time in order to feel secure. How do we understand what is seemingly a contradiction. Not enough stimuli, too much stimuli, security, safety, diversity of experience ... how do we know how much is enough and how much is too much?

A Guide to Understanding the First Year

October 30

In this talk we will take a look at the alphabet of human development for the first 12 months. What are the building blocks, the progression of actions and behaviors that unfold? What is the optimal learning environment? What might be obstacles that slow down or prevent the progression of development written into our DNA?

A Guide to Understanding the Second Year
December 4

The phase from 12 to 24 months covers a huge span of development. The walking child is an insatiable explorer and the modality of exploration has a universal character that is completely observable. What might we offer this child? What objects feed creativity and the scientific mind of this young explorer? How much freedom should we offer? How do we recognize concentration in a child who does not sit still? How do we see the focused attention of the child while engaging in either gross motor or fine motor activity? If we learn to see concentration even in movement we have begun to see the vagabond explorer for who he is and we are no longer looking for a child who isn't there yet.
